Electric current finds wide application in physiotherapy by virtue of the main effects that are recognized:
- Electrolytic (ion migration)
- Analgesic
- Stimulating
To be avoided in the presence of a pacemaker and in case of skin hypersensitivity or in the case of tissue that is not perfectly intact.
Each electrotherapy exploits these effects differently.
Diadynamic currents are alternating monodirectional, mono or diphasic currents with a variable period that act with an analgesic effect by acting on the nerve fibers by exploiting this variable periodicity which reduces the adaptation of the fibers themselves to a constant stimulus.
The effect on the membrane of the fibers is greater at the negative pole which must be positioned on the point of maximum pain.
